Annual Bass Tournament
May 19, 2007 will mark the 18th Anniversary of the Wolfson Children's Hospital Bass Tournament. Last year, we had 436 boats participate, keeping ours the largest single-day bass tournament held in the state of Florida. We are growing every year and last year we were able to contribute $100,000 to Wolfson Children's Hospital at Baptist Medical Center, Jacksonville, Florida.
The director of Plant Facilities Department of Baptist Medical Center Downtown, along with several outside contractors, wanted to play a major role in funding capital improvements and technological advancements for the Children's Hospital. They created this tournament with the goal of making it the largest in the state raising money for kids. The tournament beneficiary, Wolfson Children's Hospital, provides specialty care for sick and injured infants and children. Wolfson Children's has grown to become a 180-bed specialty children's facility where over 50,000 inpatients and outpatients are treated each year. Wolfson is a pediatric center of excellence where children receive the best health care available.
Since the fishermen's entry fees are returned as cash prizes, the Children's Hospital proceeds are raised soley through sponsorship and donations.
Not only is this a profitable event, but also a lot of fun for the volunteers, the anglers, and for everyone who comes to enjoy the activities associated with the tournament, which is held in the "Bass Capital of the World," Palatka, Florida.
