Child Life
The Child Life Program is designed to bridge the gap between hospital and home, assisting children and their families in coping with the emotional and developmental stresses of hospitalization. One-on-one therapeutic play, art, music and pet therapies minimize potentially traumatic and damaging events, and maximize opportunities for positive and supportive experiences.
The goal of Child Life is to promote the developmental, emotional and social well-being of children while they are in the health care setting. The hospital's child life specialists are professionally trained members of the health care team, and each specialist has a college degree. They act as advocates for patients and their families, and they also provide opportunities for play, learning, preparation, self-expression, family involvement and socialization. Play is used to enhance normal growth and development, both individually at a patient's bedside and in a group setting in one of the hospital's playrooms or its teen room.
